[Kb-complexity] New paper on the emergence and growth of knowledge and diversity in hierarchically complex living systems (including organizations)
People may be interested in a paper I recently prepared for a recent
workshop that I think deals centrally with issues of our new Complexity
Science & Organisations (CSO) SIG. I have posted it to my personal web
page for criticism.
Although the work has been fermenting in my consciousness since last
year, the draft was pulled together in less than three weeks and is
still rough - however, with minor exceptions, and together my published
work dealing specifically with knowledge in organizations (see
http://www.orgs-evolution-knowledge.net/Index/PapersandPresentations.htm
), I think it provides a fairly complete theoretical framework for
understanding the roles and types of knowledge in complex organized
systems.
Given that I still have to bring the material together in publishable
form, I would welcome any critical feedback regarding any arguments that
fail to convince or that may be unintelligible. I will be happy to
discuss the contents via the mailing list or off line.

summarizes its content and a bit of background on its genesis -

[The] skyhook-skyscraper construction
of science from the roof down to the
yet unconstructed foundations [is]
possible because the behavior of the
system at each level [depends] on only
a very approximate, simplified,
abstracted characterization of the
system at the level next beneath.
